Resources:

  • Collections, our new textbook, will be used for close reading assignments and other activities. Seedfolks, a new novel that explores narrative writing, solidifies the concept of Community. The study of Poetry and interpretation will use the TPCAST model. Greek Mythology, exploring word roots, and discovering meaning of unknown words is a focus as well as creating narrative, informational, and argumentative writing pieces. Mystery series novels entice readers to read another series: Face on A Milk Carton, by Caroline Cooney, Kid Lawyer: Theodore Boone series, by John Grisham, And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie. Near the end of the year, the class will read Lions of Little Rock and complete research on issues in the 1950's.

  • Sentence Writing Strategies will be used to study the structure of language:
